Performing

We do LOTS of performing at gateway ballet.  You will notice that, no matter how long or how short a session is, we always do an in-house performance at the end.  Our goal at gateway ballet is to give the children in the south end the best classical ballet training and technique…..while still emphasizing all the wonderful aspects of performing.   We want our students to be completely involved with all of the exciting procedures of putting on a proper production.  The students will help decide on the pieces to be performed, the music to be used, the design and creation of costumes, hair, make-up and sets.   These productions are open to all the people in our South End community

Ashley Richardson brings considerable experience in the performing arts to gateway ballet,  with her passion for ‘The Ballet’ being her main focus.    As a young dancer,  she was trained in the Balanchine technique in New York City at  The School of American Ballet where she studied with two of her favorite teachers, Stanley Williams and Suki Schorer.

In Boston, she studied with recently retired, Jacqueline Cronsberg.  While Jacqueline Cronsberg was a well-known  and highly sought after teacher, she would organize to have famous dancers, such as Edward Villella and Christopher Flemming come to Boston to teach her students special workshops.   With an honorary scholarship to The Julliard School of the Performing Arts, Ashley permanently moved to New York City  at the age of 17.

During her time in NYC, she was privileged to  study with David Howard and  Wilhelm Burmann.  After an unfortunate Achilles tendon injury her intensive dance training was over and for the next 11 years, Ashley worked in the very creative,  fast paced,  high fashion industry as a model.

For the past 10 years Ashley has  worked with children in fashion shows,  commercials,  music videos,  photo shoots,  plays and of course ballets…..everything from production and choreography to art direction.  The past several years, she has been the Assistant Ballet Mistress at The Ballet Workshop of New England and the Massachusetts Youth Ballet under her mentor Jacqueline Cronsberg.   Ashley is following in Ms. Cronsberg’s footsteps and has become a mentor to many young performers.

Ashley continues to dedicate extensive time to the non-profit organization,  City Lights which for the past 25 years has had an open door policy to any city child that wants to pursue a dream of becoming involved in the performing arts.

At gateway ballet, Ashley brings the highest quality classical ballet training to the South End  where students  will feel inspired and nurtured  in a small class setting …….receiving extensive individual attention.
